Description

The MacroFocal Freeform Design feature expands the toolset of the MacroFocal design capability. The original MacroFocal tools take into account the edge geometry of the light source to create a specific light distribution, which simplifies the process for generating complex light distributions such as low beams, fog lights, or individual light patterns. MacroFocal Freeform Design provides optical engineers more granular control over the light spread across the entire facet. This reduces the need to subdivide facets into multiple rows of facets, which avoids increased stray light due to additional gap surfaces, reduced flux collection, metallization, or other tooling complications. In this Tech Talk, you will learn the basics of the MacroFocal Freeform Design feature. In simple and understandable examples, you will learn the differences between the conventional MacroFocal calculation algorithm and recognize the advantages and limitations of the Freeform Design feature. A detailed example guides you through a design process from idea to finish. Important steps are described in more detail to give you a solid understanding of the Freeform Design feature.
